Un Ar Deg , Sauerbier House Residency, 2007

Sauerbier Art House is an historic villa on the riverbank of Port Noarlunga, which was transformed into a site-responsive contemporary art centre in 2015. It offers artist / writer in-residence, an art gallery, a writing gallery, temporary art projects in the grounds, and hosts arts and cultural events. Sauerbier Art House is dedicated to the creation of living cultural dialogues and local creative exchanges.

In 2015/16, I completed a four-month Sauerbier House residency. This residency provided a studio but not accommodation, so I camped on artist, Gavin Malone’s land, Lot 50 Kanyanyapilla in McLaren Vale. Prior to starting the residency, I had been reading a story (Mermandho by Lynette Solomen-Dent) and translating into Cymraeg. On my arrival at Sauerbier House, I decided to visually translate the story using the landscape of the area, especially the landscape and trees of Lot 50 Kanyanyapilla.

At the end of the residency the work was exhibited in the gallery at Sauerbier House and then the work was shown as part of my 2021 PhD exhibition in the School of Art galleries at Aberystwyth University.
